Water and Sanitation
Clean water changes everything.

Water is life. Yet in many rural communities across Ghana — particularly in the Volta Region and the north — access to clean, safe water remains an everyday struggle. Women and girls walk hours each day to collect water from rivers and ponds contaminated with bacteria, parasites, and chemical pollutants. The health consequences are devastating: cholera, typhoid, diarrheal diseases, and preventable deaths.
Lighthouse Humanitarian Aid Ghana's Water and Sanitation program tackles this crisis at its roots. Since 2022, we have drilled and rehabilitated boreholes, installed hand pumps, constructed sanitation facilities, and delivered hygiene education to communities where clean water access is severely limited or entirely absent.
Borehole drilling is transformative not just because it provides safe water, but because of what it unlocks downstream: girls who are no longer burdened with water collection can attend school. Mothers can cook with clean water. Communities can sustain market gardens. Sanitation facilities reduce disease transmission and restore dignity — especially for women and girls.
Beyond infrastructure, we conduct community hygiene education sessions, training local leaders and households on proper handwashing, water storage, and sanitation practices that prevent the spread of waterborne illness.
Clean water does not just quench thirst. It opens up possibilities — for health, for education, for economic activity, for human dignity. Your support makes it possible.
