Restoring Sight

Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness in sub-Saharan Africa — and the tragedy is that most cases are entirely reversible with a straightforward surgical procedure. For millions of people in Ghana, however, that procedure remains out of reach, not because of medical complexity, but because of cost.

Lighthouse Humanitarian Aid Ghana's Restoring Sight program bridges that gap. Since 2022, we have partnered with certified ophthalmologists and healthcare facilities to fund cataract screenings, surgical interventions, and post-operative care for men, women, and children who would otherwise lose their sight permanently.

We conduct mobile outreach in rural and peri-urban communities, identifying individuals with treatable visual impairments and connecting them to care. For many beneficiaries, the surgery lasts less than thirty minutes — but the impact lasts a lifetime.

Restoring someone's sight means restoring their independence, their livelihood, and their dignity. Grandmothers who can see their grandchildren's faces. Farmers who can tend their land again. Children who can read a chalkboard for the first time.
